Title Unsaturated Channel Analysis for Admission Control Algorithms in IEEE 802.11 Networks
Chinese Title IEEE 802.11網絡非飽和信道分析及接納控制算法
Principal Investigator Prof. Weijia JIA (CS)
Synopsis

To provide quality of service for bandwidth-sensitive applications in the dynamic wireless channels/links, this project proposes a novel analytical model and efficient algorithms for wireless bandwidth detection and admission control in IEEE 802.11 networks with DCF access mechanism.

In contrast to previous approaches that only focused on the saturated channel analysis, this project will analyze the unsaturated state of wireless channels to make best utilization of the network resources. Specifically, it aims to:

  1. investigate an efficient algorithm for quick bandwidth detection of the wireless links while imposing the light load traffic and short time duration for the detections;
  2. study a novel analytical Markov model for analysis of the saturated and unsaturated throughputs in facing the connection competitions in 802.11 DCF access control mechanism;
  3. design efficient admission control algorithms based on effective resource utilization through calculating the expected residual available bandwidth; and
  4. implement a platform for testing the wireless connection and admission control algorithms.
