Synopsis |
WiMAX (IEEE 802.16) will be deployed worldwide as 4G networks to provide seamless real-time multimedia transmission. An efficient handoff (HO) mechanism for the integrated heterogeneous networks with QoS provision becomes crucial. This project will study novel HO admission control and network resource allocation algorithms for Mobile Stations (MSs) roaming within WiMAX LOS networks with QoS satisfaction and the best resource utilization. It will contribute to the following:
-
an efficient proactive HO admission control through coordination of signal-to-noise ratio, MAC-layer access, and service flow profiles proactively for quick contact to a WiMAX Base Station (BS) during initial ranging and bandwidth request periods;
- proactive link scheduling and resource allocation to the satisfaction of HO-MSs' QoS requirements while maximizing the utilization of downlink/uplink channels or transmission opportunities of the BS through dynamic weighted assignments and synchronization of down/uplink schedulers; and
- modelling and derivation of the theoretical QoS parameter bounds and complexity for the algorithms.
