Synopsis |
This research aims at the design and implementation of a novel efficient multicast communication protocol with the minimized cost. A new approach of logical clock ring for multicast communication is proposed. In such a ring, a dynamic token-holding process will transmit the total order multicasts and guarantee previous multicast atomicity. Unlike existing approaches, in the protocol normal operation the dynamic token holder's position is a predicable knowledge of each site, and no control message is required for achieving total ordering of multicasts. The research team intends to use module design the protocol and implement it with a state machine approach which confirms the module. The protocol will be dynamically reconfigurable with user-friendly interfaces for the high level applications.
The results of this research will make contributions to network multicast design and have an impact on the research of distributed computing system in Hong Kong, in terms of both industry applications, research and teaching. |
