Synopsis

Little research has been carried out on anycast message routing and related protocol. This proposal aims to design and prototype efficient routing algorithms/protocol for anycast messages on current and next generation Internet communication. The objectives are to:

  1. design new routing algorithms for efficient transmission of anycast messages over the Internet by taking advantage of anycast characteristics to explore load sharing and short end-to-end average delays for anycast messages;
  2. identify theoretical features of anycast message routing and analyze the complexity and correctness of the routing algorithms; and
  3. prototype efficient anycast routing algorithms into an (experimental) protocol and investigate their availability and suitability for existing Internet technology for industrial application.
The research is expected to result in new communication mechanisms and will be useful for industrial application where anycast service is desired.
