Synopsis

The research aims to design and prototype a set of novel adaptive and dynamic Internet routing algorithms and protocol for integrated multicast and anycast messages that meet user end-to-end quality-of-service (QoS) criteria. For a group of servers, the project plans to:

  1. establish a set of new adaptive multicast routing algorithms that can dynamically switch between two types of routing trees in response to end-to-end QoS performance requirements of multicast traffic;
  2. design a hierarchical routing for anycast path routing and devise an integrated dynamic anycast and multicast routing algorithm to efficiently transmit the anycast and multicast traffic with a QoS requirement to the server group;
  3. investigate performance, theoretical features and characteristics of the integrated dynamic routing algorithms in respect to end-to-end QoS performance; and
  4. prototype and implement the integrated routing algorithms into some experimental protocols and test their availability and fitness for existing Internet technology and industrial applications.
