Synopsis

Information services with anycast real-time communication flow can be very useful for many Internet applications such as multimedia e-business, audio and video conferencing, replicated database updating and querying, software update distribution, stock market information services and resource discovery. Using anycast services can significantly simplify some applications. This project will study a set of novel flow control (including both admission and resource management) algorithms and protocols for anycast multimedia flows (AFC system). It will focus on the algorithms that perform dynamic destination selection, which is critical for setting up the connections for anycast multimedia flows. The mathematical modelling will be addressed using stochastic analysis for various approaches of resource reservation, delay calculation and historical control in the AFC system. The proposed mechanisms and algorithms will be evaluated by stochastic analysis and computer simulation in terms of end-to-end delay and admission probability of anycast flows.
