Synopsis

Ubiquitous communications require wireless networking and infrastructure network support. This project targets the design and implementation of two sets of systems: ubiquitous transmission protocols for "ubiquitous devices/terminals/handsets", called Intelligent Multi-mode Nodes (IMN); and AnyServer, an intelligent platform to provide the IMNs with smooth QoS communications, synchronization and roaming over heterogeneous networks. AnyServer will be open, scalable and in compliance with ITU/IETF standards. In particular, the following aspects of R & D are targeted:

  1. WiFi and 3G-324M Multimedia Transmission Protocols Stack for mobile wireless video/audio communication;
  2. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) based Multi-mode Soft-switching Package for 3G,WiFi/Internet Transmission;
  3. Soft-switching Package for Server and Networking Functions on Call Server, Media gateway, Signaling gateway and Home/Visitor Location Registration (HLR/VLR) servers; and
  4. Adaptive Soft-switching Package to support IMNs routing and roaming in heterogeneous networks of 3G/GSM/WiFi/Internet using AnyServer platform to setup/maintain the real-time video/audio connections, facing the mobility of IMNs.
