Title AnyServer - A Re-configurable Information Services System
Chinese Title AnyServer - 可重組信息服務系統
Principal Investigator Prof. Weijia JIA (ZRC)
Synopsis

This project intends to design and implement a novel integration of wireless and Internet multimedia information service system (called AnyServer), aiming at establishing an easy installation and re-configurable efficient Web and mobile server group. The servers may provide different services and be used for customized information transmission between mobile clients. The individual member servers in the group may provide different types of servers for customization to different mobile clients. The members executing the protocol may allow multimedia information tunneling, there is a mobile user may register at any server site to be a member and the user will receive (mobile) multimedia information transmission service from the members in a group. The project aims to form a service group network over the world and enable users to upload or download the multimedia information anywhere and anytime.

In addition to mobile and Internet connection, AnyServer will extend and enhance current services by turning every mobile device into an Internet intelligent multimedia terminal. It has the following characteristics:

  1. highly available service: By using mobile transmission mechanism, any customer can easily request the mobile service anytime anywhere;
  2. automatic tasking services: Customer requests will be executed, searched, and synthesized, and results will be delivered automatically to the customers according to their specifications; and
  3. intelligent services will extract useful (real-time) multimedia information from Internet servers and provide it to customers in real time.

The prototype of AnyServer is under implementation and can be readily tested or applied for wireless and mobile services. The innovative technologies provided by AnyServer are very practical and will facilitate Hong Kong mobile service providers to provide multimedia streams with quality of service.
